300 people welcome the Undersecretary of Health Andrea Costa at Villa Maraini
Andrea Costa, Undersecretary of Health, was welcomed by over 300 people and visited the Villa Maraini Foundation on Thursday morning. Listening to his words were psychologists, volunteers and users treated at the facility that deals with preventing and monitoring the phenomenon of drug addiction. “With today we begin a new path of in-depth analysis and inclusion of your reality in a context of action, integration and involvement that I am carrying out at a national level” commented Costa during the meeting in via Ramazzini.
Villa Maraini was founded by Massimo Barra in 1976 and includes a set of services for the treatment and rehabilitation of drugs, alcohol abuse and gambling, divided into different threshold levels: low, medium and high, depending on the motivation that the user must have in order to undertake the proposed treatment path. Villa Maraini is also present with a mobile unit in the Tor Bella Monaca district, on the eastern outskirts of the city, near one of the largest drug dealing squares in the country. “The suffering linked to drugs is great, which is why we welcome everyone, even those who are still unable to stop, because the problem of drug treatment is not to go beyond the point of no return, that is, to ensure that the user does not die of an overdose or do not get viral hepatitis or HIV” commented the founder of Villa Maraini Massimo Barra.
“Among my responsibilities there is also prevention, monitoring and therapeutic paths connected to the phenomenon of addictions. Which is why I wanted to see in person all the incredible work that is carried out by the Italian Red Cross through the Villa Maraini Foundation, and which Massimo Barra had spoken to me about with pride and enthusiasm” said Costa. “With today we begin a new path of in-depth analysis and inclusion of your reality in a context of action, integration and involvement that I am carrying out at a national level, because we need to give answers and support to those who try to escape addiction, whatever it may be. Your role is precious and decisive” concluded Costa as reported by Ansa.
